Demchenko A.V. - Holmgrad History
Author: Demchenko A.V.
Series: Holmgrad history
The initial impression of the book is based on contrasts. In particular, the hero from the modern world is very surprised by the standard of living of the people, both ordinary and those in power. And since the level of local intelligence services is clearly lower than what he is used to, he decides to start creating a local intelligence elite. At the same time, he develops the automobile industry and quickly becomes a very influential person in the state. Here chance and diplomatic intrigue intervene, as a result of which the hero is mistaken for the heir of a family who has the right to rule lands of strategic importance
The world of Tsarist Russia, diluted with steampunk motifs, is of interest. At the same time, the standard of living of the people and the general attitude are very different from what we are used to and even cause envy. Moreover, the technical lag is successfully replaced by local magic, which is owned to a greater or lesser extent by the entire population. Moreover, magic is often used not in battle, but to solve everyday problems. Well, at the state level, everything is familiar - states are weaving intrigues, intelligence agencies are trying to get other people's secrets, world wars, fortunately, have so far been bypassed.
It’s interesting to follow the hero, although the first book is built more on the principle of a detective story in a steampunk setting
The second book is more focused on the creation of a local intelligence school and the development of the automotive industry
The third book already raises questions of politics and interstate intrigue, which quickly change the attitude towards the hero of both the common people and the local elite.
Interesting description of the way of life
The hero, in principle, does not stand out much in strength, although specific knowledge allows him to find something to do
The hero plays the role of Ford in an alternative tsarist Russia
Subsequent books develop slowly, there are practically no active actions
