Aksenov Danil – Impostor

There are many heroes. Brave, strong, invincible. Insanely lucky and loved by everyone. Heroes who are waiting for prophecies and artifacts. But this book is not about them. It's about a man who seems ordinary. He is neither brave nor cowardly. He's not lucky, but he's not a failure either. He is simply a modern man who can do something, knows something, and guesses something. And this, only this is its advantage. When he makes a mistake and finds himself in a world where the Middle Ages reign and reason gives way to brute force, will he be able to survive the fight? And in general, is there any point in fighting many powerful enemies if you yourself are very weak? Maybe you just need to hide, trembling with fear every minute of your life? Is it possible for a person without special abilities to challenge everyone and change the world?

The main character finds himself in the world of magic, and almost immediately finds himself on the verge of death. Only the fact that he had the beginnings of magical abilities saved him from reprisals in the very first village he encountered along the way. He becomes a student of a local magician, learns the language and receives information about the new world. It quickly turns out that he has magical abilities, but very weak. And no matter how hard he tries, he will always end up as a weak magician who won't even be able to defend himself. But like other victims, he is saved by knowledge from our world. It turns out that local magicians can create amulets that can help in difficult situations. But more than one amulet cannot be used. And the number of functions is limited to one or two. Further, the complexity of the calculations increases to such an extent that a lifetime is not enough to create it. But the hero came from a world in which calculations have long been carried out using computers. And after creating a primitive calculating machine, it turns out that it is possible to create an amulet with any functions.

Meanwhile, in the kingdom in which the hero finds himself, not everything is going smoothly. Villages are plundered by nomads, and the local king is unable to protect his subjects. Our hero finds out the situation and decides to do something drastic - to declare himself the rightful heir to the throne, who disappeared in childhood. And since the local nobility likes the situation in the country even less, they don’t ask for any evidence and start an uprising. Moreover, thanks to amulets, even a small army is capable of carrying out a coup.

A medieval world in which magic is present (albeit called somewhat differently). Magical abilities can be developed, but still largely depend on the initial potential. Those who are lucky enough to be born with great abilities become great magicians who form the backbone of the government of any state. There are ordinary troops, but without magical support they become easy prey for magicians. And the amulets created by the hero are actually capable of equalizing the powers of an ordinary soldier and a not very strong magician.

The hero, being an ordinary scientist in our world, finds himself in a new world with a desire to ensure his safety. And having made an unexpected decision to become a local ruler, he turns out to be able to carry out a coup, of course, not without the help of supporters from local residents and nobles. In fact, after creating his amulet, the hero becomes practically invulnerable and is able to impart the powers of great magicians to ordinary people. But at the same time, he has to hide it, since such opportunities will destroy the existing balance of power in the world, after which no amulets will save him. But he has to fight the old fashioned way, even if his soldiers are superior to those of the enemy.

Of course, the ability to create an enhancing amulet of any power puts the hero in an advantageous position, but in further events the hero’s organizational and political abilities also play a big role. In general, the transformation of an ordinary scientist, far from adventures, into a self-proclaimed prince is quite unexpected. But if we accept the changes in character due to changed conditions, then the hero’s further actions are logical. And even the desire to improve life in the state in which he lives can be understood. Although, with his capabilities, it was quite possible to achieve a comfortable existence without getting involved in a civil war, the hero is trying to somehow improve the life of the locals who sheltered him. And the slave system does not suit him at all.

It can be recommended for reading, especially since the book is not about the adventures of an all-powerful hero, but rather about attempts to improve life in a state ruled by an incompetent ruler.

At first glance, the world into which the hero finds himself is very cruel and merciless. But it soon becomes clear that this is simply the result of a completely incompetent reign of the local king, who is completely indifferent to both the fate of his subjects and his own country. So the nomads are destroying peaceful villages, and the neighbors are not against grabbing a province or two for themselves. Magicians play a fairly large role in the life of the country. After all, they are one of the main forces in battles. And often the outcome of the war depends on their number and skill. And there are only a few strong magicians
