Pekhov Alexander – Catchers of Fortune

Author: Alexey Pekhov

It's hard to escape your past. To do this, you will have to overcome many difficulties and find yourself on the other side of the world, in a country of warm sun, gentle ocean and tropical islands. Where air pirates and dashing captains roam the sky, robbery and smuggling flourish, rum flows like a river and everyone respects flyers. In the world on the border of the Upside Down, dizzying adventures and miracles await all hunters of fortune.

A common setting for adventure novels is a tropical island with multi-gun ships, smugglers, vile pirates, and noble captains. Let's take this setting and add air battles to the usual naval battles. We'll also transfer everything to a fantasy world with a huge number of races peacefully coexisting and at war with each other. The story is bound to captivate the reader.

The main character runs from certain execution to a place where no one will look for him and where no one cares about his identity. An island nation on the other side of the globe, where many trade routes intersect, becomes such a place. Many people here want to make money through trade, smuggling, and even piracy. The ocean of air is vast, and local law enforcement officers are unable to control all directions.

The hero is a professional pilot who loves flying. However, to fly, skill alone is not enough - you need a ship, which is expensive and requires money to maintain it. The hero did not flee from senseless bloodshed to become a local pirate. He can agree to dubious job offers, but it is not his preferred choice.

The world is divided not only into states but also between different races. In human states, different races coexist relatively peacefully. However, in the domains of elves or orcs, they look rather askance at everyone except their relatives. Wars flare up here not only for political reasons but also because of mutual hatred.

The action takes place far from the center of confrontation between major races and political intrigues. The local state lives by trade, and where there are traffic flows, there will always be people who want to rob. The local population consists of adventurers from all over the world who earn their living by legal or illegal methods.

Local technologies are tied to magic, but they are not very different from the adventure books about pirates. The same heavily loaded galleons, multi-gun warships, fast pirate schooners, broadsides, boardings, and other attributes of pirate romance. Only the action takes place not at sea but in the air. In addition to heavy ships, light one- or two-seat “fighters” and “attack aircraft” are used.

The plot revolves around the flight of a representative of the ruling dynasty of elves from imminent execution. He also managed to quarrel with the local dark sorcerers and is generally trying to start life from scratch in a new place. The desire to acquire his own ship becomes logical since he cannot imagine his life without flying. Of course, he succeeds, even if he has to go through many adventures, make friends, and take part in more than one air battle.

On earth, the hero does not have any outstanding abilities in either magic or martial arts. He knows how to find friends, without whom it is impossible to survive in the adventures ahead of him. The hero finds himself drawn into a confrontation with local dark magicians. This can result in significant problems for the whole world.

The book is an engaging read that is full of constant action. The hero is always flying somewhere, meeting new people, taking part in battles, boardings, and races. He emerges victorious from seemingly hopeless situations, largely due to luck and the help of his comrades. Like all the author's books, it is highly recommended reading.

A fantasy world with a huge number of races living side by side

A fusion of pirate adventure novel and fighter air battles

An original mixture of magic and technology that works on it

A noble and positive hero from all sides, who nevertheless does not look like a “knight in white armor”

Constant action, travel, and battles will not let you get bored

Non-trivial main storyline

Rum, a lot of rum! (where would we be without him on the Pirate Island)

Almost a complete absence of any romantic line
